Academy Award–winning director Chloé Zhao finds herself back in the awards race thanks to Hamnet, an exquisite historical drama that offers up a different look at the life of William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal). Based on the novel by Maggie O'Farrell, who co-wrote the screenplay with Zhao, Hamnet's focus isn't really on the Bard.
